The norm?

Medical Procedures

I am a citizen of T & T, staying in Tobago and (Postgraduate student) in my thirties.
This letter is being written after my Second visit to a Chiropractor in Tobago.

I am not sure if many people experience permanent relief from pains or if they have mostly positive results from the services offered by a Chiropractor that visits the island - or not, this is not my concern at this time but rather, how was my experience as a patient?

Maybe the nature of the chiropractor’s work, can make the experience an uncomfortable one for some, baring the pain; [I had none, just went to check out my alignments as advertised on TV]. I thought it best to write these thoughts, because they are not numb from any pain. By the way let me throw out this question (a professionals’ response preferably); is it necessary for a female to go semi-topless for thoracic care in the absence of a gown? or is Chiropractic care just as effective with a vest, bra or gown on?

We do appreciate good Chiropractic care on the island for those that need it!

I have been a Chiropractor in Canada for the past 24years....indeed ,it is NOT necessary to strip,or to wear a gown when being examined or adjusted. However ,when treating or examining a female patient,it is highly recommended to have your secretary

In T&T wear a large button down garment cause even in the nursing homes there is no guarantee that you will get a clean gown. Or walk with your own sheet cause many are cheap to buy examination paper.

As time progressed, the chiropractor learns to palpate through clothes for certain techniques. It is not uncommon to gown-up but if you are uncomfortable, you MUST left him know and he would have to use another method when adjusting. Great question!

Hi, I am a current Chiropractic student in the USA and also a "trini". As I have learned thus far, gowning is up to the doctor. In US we are trained to gown so the doctor can see any abnormalities that are physical evident.
