Williams gets swimming scholDannyelle Williams, a student of Scarborough Secondary School received her swimming scholarship award on January 30 at a simple ceremony at the Scarborough Secondary School. Williams is the first recipient of one of two swimming scholarships offered by Graham Tuckfield of England. Tuckerfield is a volunteer coach with the Tobago Youth Development Centre (TYDC) which is a non-profit organisation and has been teaching children to swim since 1987. Scarborough Secondary School joined the programme in 2006. Jonathon Louis, the president and head coach of TYDC said during his address at the ceremony, swimming is a very important form of physical education, it is also an expensive sport but thanks to people like Tuckfield who apart from sponsoring the scholarship, volunteers his services in many different areas in the development of our organisation and Gary Stevens and his family who allow us the use of their pool at Villa Petrus to conduct our classes, we are able to carry on this worthwhile community service. Their contribution to the young people in this community must not go unnoticed, because it is invaluable." |
