Soca Princesses at bumper Mascot launch

The Tobago leg of the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup kicked off with a bumper Mascot Launch last Friday. The National U-17 Women's Team arrived by ferry and headed to the Scarborough Esplanade where they were the breakfast guests of Secretary of Education Youth Affairs and Sports, Claudia Groome-Duke.

The whirlwind day for the Soca Princesses continued as they headed out on an impressive motorcade. The motorcade weaved its way through several areas of Tobago creating quite a stir. The contingent was led by two police outriders, a striking convoy of the Tobago Mission Riders Motorcycle Club and the music truck blasting the World Cup Waka Waka music as well as the theme song of the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2010. The footballers alighted at Plymouth Recreational grounds where they greeted excited youngsters and took time out to enjoy the picturesque allure of Fort James.

In the afternoon, the contingent was joined by the Tobago Women Football team. The group then abandoned their buses and proceded from James Park to the Esplanade, totally drenched and dancing in the rain to the catchy strains of the music from the music truck.

The day culminated with a short and thoroughly enjoyable programme at the Esplande during which the National team and Trinity, the Mascot were introduced to the public.

Secretary of Community Developement and Culture, Tracey Davidson-Celestine, patron of the day's events, congratulated the team on their performances to date and wished them success at the upcoming World Cup games.

Trinity, the Mascot, stole the show with her scintillating dance moves. She delighted the crowd even further when she wooed Secretary Groome-Duke to join her on the stage where they both treated the audience to some expert dance moves. The day ended at 6.00 pm when the contingent left to return to Trinidad. The National Under-17 Women's team left for Venezuela last Sunday to continue their preparations for the final in the September.
