Scarborough Cup tee-off on Saturday

Five national players are included in the field of 44 teams registered to compete in the 8th annual Scarborough Cup Golf Tournament to be held on February 3-5.

Monty Chapman, Dave Rajkumar, Wayne Baptiste, Michael Commissiong and Carlos 'Sexy' Baynes is among the field which include the defending champions, Tobago's Chris McMillian and William Shaw.

The tournament is supported by the Department of Tourism of the Tobago House of Assembly, the Tourism Development Company (TDC) and th Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA).

The top three teams will qualify for the annual Sir Garry Sobers Golf Classic in Barbados in April and will compete in a field of 280 golfers from all around the world, including a large contingent from Trinidad and Tobago. Accommodation for the top three will be provided by Accra Beach Hotel and Pirate's Inn, rental cars by Courtesy Rentals, airfare by Liat and entry to the tournament by the Sir Garry Sobers committee and the Barbados Tourism Authority.

The teams will play both courses on the island, the Mount Irvine Bay Hotel golf course and the Tobago Plantation Golf and Country Club simultaneously in a gruelling format that include four 'Bobby Holes' each day. These holes will be very difficult and both players' score must count.

This event is sanctioned by the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association and started in 2004 as part of the 350th year celebration of the founding of the Town of Scarborough.
