Fastest goat in Tobago

Neil Potts wrote his name in the goat racing history book in Tobago when he won 10 races at the popular Easter Monday Mt Pleasant recreation ground, Mt Pleasant with its spanking newly-constructed pavilion.

The phenomenal feat in which his goats won all the races they competed in earned Potts close to $30,000 in prize monies.

His leading goat was Silver Fox that won four races including the prestigious Division of Finance and Enterprise Mt Pleasant Derby that boasted the richest 1st prize in goat racing history, $10,000 and the Champion of Champions race. Silver Fox has not lost a race at Mt Pleasant Sports Meeting for the last three years and seems to be in love with the Mt Pleasant track.

Leroy Kerr, the jockey who piloted all 10 winners also wrote his name in the history book and showed that his physical condition was at its optimum, as he raced down the track 10 times with no more than a 30-minute break between races.

Potts was in high praise for Secretary in the Division of Finance and Enterprise Anslem London for fulfilling his promise he made to him about a year ago when they chatted about goat-racing at Pigeon Point.

Potts told the Tobago News that he told London that the prizes were not encouraging and London agreed after hearing what the prizes were and promised to significantly increase the prizes including the total funding of the Mt Pleasant Derby worth $25,000 that included the $10,000, 1st prize.

Commenting on his phenomenal success, Potts told the Tobago News that he knows that he is envied by many but he is only enjoying the rewards for his hard work, as for the last two months he and Kerr had been getting up at 3 a.m daily to go to the beach to train the goats.

The much anticipated 120m race in which goats had to manoeuvre a curve for the first time in goat-racing history was very exciting though it had a minor blur with the injury of one of the jockeys.

The sport meeting was another huge success as there was entertainment outside and inside the facility. The Easter Bonnets entertained the massive crowd with their huge colourful bonnets and pretty dresses, while there were various fun games, Bouncy Castle, Go Carts and a variety of children toys on sale with the programme culminating with a cultural show.

This Goat race thing have my confused. While entertainment is important educational development is important also. They build the million dollar facility in Buccoo and now the build another in Mt Pleasant for goat to run. Ok kool no problem with that but the thing that i cannot understand you will ask about why the library is not completed and you will hear the heads say funding, you will ask how come the cultural complex is not complete you will hear funding, you will ask how come the hospital is moving at a slow pace interms of outfitting it you will hear funding. this have me wondering what is more important to build a place for to run goat and that suppose to boost torisim and people cant get help with certain things . hmmm is better we turn to goat maybe we will get better treatment
