Pure Players jump to frontC&B Community Basketball LeaguePure Players jumped to front in the Canaan/Bon Accord Community BasketballLeague with two wins from as may outings as the first week of action at the Canaan/Bon Accord basketball court concluded last week. Pure Players defeated the Plymouth based Ruthless Iconz 76-64 in their first encounter and community based team Corner Boys in their second encounter 70-63. Against Ruthless Iconz, a team boasting a wealth of talent in players of the calibre of Dereck Hamilton and the Abraham brothers, Starksy and Greig carried the fight to Pure Players but they were unable to overcome the Pure Players tenacious defence and smooth flowing offence. The combination of Mikel Turu who led all scorers with 26 points, Nigel Saul and Jondel Singh in tandem with the rest of their cast enabled Pure Players to post a comfortable 76-64 victory. In their second game, the talented Nigel Saul showed his class, scoring a game-high 33 of his team's 70 points to pilot them to victory against Corner Boys that boasts two very experience and talented six-footers in Lenwayne Wallace and Randell Moore, both of whom had a stint playing college basketball in the United States. However, though the game was close, they never got over the hump as Pure Players triumphed at 70-63. Defending champions, Dignitaries led by Omilton John and Junior Thomas showed their class as they outlasted Pure Players' B team playing under the name, Seattle Connection 56-42 in a low-scoring affair. Seattle's key scorers, Oral Belfon, Kernel Heath who finished with a game high 20 points and Akeem De Leon only found their scoring touch late in the game but Dignitaries had already built up a comfortable lead and it was a little too late to stop the defending champions that led from start to finish from registering a comfortable 56-42 victory.
