National Schools Basketball to open in October

The Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools Basketball Association will launch its 2010 season at the Chaguanas Indoor Facility on October 6.

The change from hosting the League in the first term of the year to the last term is to ensure that students who are sitting the CXC and CAPE exams will be able to commit more time focusing on their final preparations for their exams without the hassle of worrying about training and competition.

Also, SPROTT which will be one of the main sponsors for the League this year is giving the players a major incentive to work on their game and their academics.

At the end of the season a number of players, boys and girls will be selected to attend a basketball camp in the United States where hopefully some of them will be able to secure basketball scholarships for the start of the September term.

However, with the change of the Government and the changes that are expected to be made at SPROTT, Daniel-Smith could not confirm if there would be any changes or if the programme will still materalise.

She told the Tobago News that if the National launch remains on October 6, she will launch the Tobago season in November so that it will finish at the same time with the Trinidad zones and the champion teams will be match-ready for the National Champion of Champions tournament.
