London and Williams ready for Carifta gold medal performance

The 11 Tobago athletes who are in the 65-member contingent that will participate in the Easter Carifta Games in the Bahamas from today (Friday) are ready and rearing to go, according to an official.

The Tobago athletes in the contingent are Britney Bedlow – discuss, Chelsea James – shot putt, Nicholas Douglas – 100m, 200m, Ron Wright – 100m, Andwelle Wright –long jump, Edson Moses – long jump, high jump, Kenejah Williams – discuss, shot put, Mark London – 1500m, Kuniba Stewart – 110h, Akim Phillips –javelin and Atiba Wright – long jump.

Also in the contingent are two coaches, Zenith's Gerald Franklyn and Jaguar's Althea Busby.

Franklyn, the most experienced track and field coach on the island and who must enjoy some credit for the success of Zenith's world – class athletes, Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Semoy Hackett, Renny Quow and Sheridan Kirk believes that the Tobago athletes should make a significant contribution to the country's medal haul.

He anticipates gold medal performances from London and Williams and is convinced that Williams who medalled last year and is in his final year as an Under 17 athlete can return home with double gold.

Franklyn also expressed confidence in most of the other athletes to medal.
