Kelly, Webster win top Refs AwardVeteran referee, Steadman Kelly and young Kelon Webster walked away with the two top awards as the Tobago Football Referees Association held its Dinner and Awards Function at the conference room of Division of Works and Infrastructure, Shaw Park last Saturday. Kelly came out on top of a field which included Keon Yorke, Leston Romeo and Oswin Kerr to emerge as the 'Referee of the Year', 2011-2012. He emerged as the first double award winner of the Association when he also copped the 'Willingness Award' for service above and beyond the call of duty. Webster who recently attended a FIFA Referees Development Course in Trinidad just pipped a field of emerging assistant referees, Julie Ann Mc Dougal, Merville Wallace and seasoned Lynk Davis to win his second consecutive award of 'Assistant Referee of the Year'. Webster's consistent performances on the side line was duly noted by the national body for football as both he and Wallace were selected to officiated in the National U23 versus Finland match which was played at the Dwight Yorke Stadium last Wednesday. Oprah Douglas, one of the newest members of the Association was voted 'Emerging Referee of the Year' and 'Recruit of the Year' for her performance in the recruitment exam. Douglas, along with Karina Thomas, were the top candidates nationally amassing 99 per cent in the exam. Leston Romeo and Mc Dougal received the award for the 'Most Improved Male and Female Referee of the Year' respectively. Assistant Secretary in the Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport, Huey Cadette delivered the feature address in which he urged referees to use public criticism positively in their development and to strive to reach the top which is to become Tobago's FIFA referee or assistant referee. The President of the Tobago Football Association, Raymond Alleyne also brought greetings on behalf of his organisation. |
