Cyrus gets special mention from LatapyTobago-born, Trinidad-based Daniel Cyrus, one of three Tobago players in the Soca Warriors team received special mention for his performance from head coach, Russel Latapy, following the Soca Warriors 3-1 loss to arch-rivals Jamaica at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, last Wednesday. A disappointed Latapy stressed that all three goals were give-away by his team, the result of defensive blunders. One of the other Tobago players on the team McKan Hislop, a central defender must accept responsibility for one of the goals as his attempt to head out a ball was a failure, falling at the feet of a Jamaican that resulted in the first goal. Latapy said that his players defended like school boys. He added that their performance which mattered to him more that the result showed exactly where the team is in terms of how they want to play football and how the players are taking things on board. He stressed that they were a disaster defensively in the game. The former Porto and Glasglow Rangers midfielder said that he had seen enough of T&T Pro League high performers to determine which ones were good enough to play international and singled out Cyrus, a central defender who came on as a substitute and Haughton Hector for special mention. The third Tobagonian in the squad, Keon Daniel who now plies his trade with Puerto Rico Islanders in Puerto Rico gave a creditable showing and came very close to scoring in the first half when his well-taken free-kick hit the cross bar for the Jamaican custodian to thank his lucky stars. |
