Bethel United back in 2012 Premiership Division
Bethel United is back in the Premier Division of the Tobago Football Association after three years in the First Division of the local competition.
Bethel United gained the final automatic promotion spot after a pulsating 2-2 draw with Earlbrokes at Richmond last Sunday. Going into the final round of competition, three teams, Bethel United, Earlbrokes and Hills United were in with a chance of joining Youth Stars United which had already achieved promotion three rounds prior to the final round.
Bethel took a 1-0 first half-time lead through Julien James but found themselves behind ten minutes after the break as Earlbrokes responded with goals from Deon Thomas and Nicholas Jack. However Oral Williams grabbed the equaliser for Bethel 15 minutes before the end to salvage a draw that was enough to send them on their way.
At the same time, Hills United and Youth Stars were engaged in another important match at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. Needing a win to have any chance of gaining promotion, Hills got off to a dream start as Keon Boatswain volleyed home from ten metres to give them a 1-0 lead.
Youth Stars responded with goals from Kirn Harris and Uriah Palmer while Eslon Stewart was on spot to tap home to leave the game evenly poised at 2-2 just after the break.
However, Youth Stars went on the offensive to score four unanswered goals to finally triumph 6-2 and condemn Hills United to another year in the First Division. Christopher Crosby netted a double after coming on as a second half substitute while Khalid Kent and Raoul Trotman scored the other two.
Earlbrokes had put themselves in position for a chance at promotion with a 3 -0 victory over Federal Northside F.C. as Nolan Orr, Deon Thomas and Tyronne Nimblett found the net.
Carnbee-Mt. Pleasant was finally able to return to winning ways after five consecutive defeats which put paid to their promotional hopes. Internal problems put paid to their promotional aspirations after looking like a shoe-in for most of the season. They thumped Signal Hill United 4-2 then edged Golden Lane 3-2 to end their season reflecting on what might have been had things not gone south for them.
