1976 Phoenix complete double in Over 40 football

1976 Phoenix added the Knockout title to their League Championship to complete the double in the Edward Henry Construction Over 40 Football League.

Old Magics that produced the same feat for the last two years were hoping to spoil Phoenix's party, but the Canaan/Bon Accord based team showed grit and determination in accomplishing their goal.

In a very competitive, entertaining and aggressive affair, the very talented Shawn Neil McMillan who many believed was more talented than our own renowned Dwight Yorke, was their hero.

Midway in the first half Phoenix got a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and McMillan stepped up to the spot and sent a swerver past a bewildered Ruthven Ross, the Old Magic custodian.

Both teams continued to play attacking football, Old Magics in search of an equaliser and Phoenix trying to add to their score, but though they both created good scoring opportunities, neither could find the back of the net.
