ProgramME Director of the Special Projects Programme (SPP) Terrence Williams was suspended from his position last week.
This latest development created quite a huge buzz among workers in the Division of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (DIPU). Contacted by Tobago News, DIPU Secretary Hilton Sandy confirmed the suspension of Williams, who was a People's National Movement (PNM) Tobago West candidate in the May 2010 general election.
He had been in the hot seat ever since reports broke about a large cache of material bought by the SPP, was discovered stockpiled at the home of a contractor in Buccoo. Sandy ordered the removal of the material, which was re-stocked at DIPU headquarters in Shaw Park.
Since then, the matter has been the subject of an ongoing investigation. In giving an update on the investigations recently Tobago News quoted Sandy as indicating that more time was needed for a forensic audit to be completed.
Questioned, whether a report was now ready on the matter given the suspension action that was taken by the THA, Sandy pointed out that at this stage, the report had to be submitted to the Administrator for final ratification.
"In another week or so, the report would be ready for release," he assured. Sources are however looking on with keen interest on this matter. Some have been suggesting that Williams was being singled out in the on-going investigation of this controversial issue.
"How could it be that he is the only person being implicated in this scandal," questioned one DIPU worker.
Meanwhile, work has been progressing slowly on the infrastructural and road development project to access the soon-to-be-opened new hospital.
When Tobago News visited the site last Monday, while a few workers could be seen applying finishing works to completed drains, several were just sitting and milling around.
Sandy expects the entire project to be completed by the end of February.
"That roadway with the completed roundabout at the main entrance to the new hospital should be re-opened by early March for the latest," he declared.

Terrance, we Canaan people cannot be happy with this allegation, we know that you alone cannot be in this thing so you need to clear your name,dont let them fellers stay in the background and you take all the shame and humiliation. I hate what Sandy is trying to do to Terrence, the man is being targeted ever since Sandy went back to Works.And that is because he was employed by Adams who Sandy has issue with. I hope Terrence could clear his name and fast, then deal with Sandy.
