By Yohanseh Asukile

CEO of WASA, Ganga Singh has revealed that not only will the Tobago Office of WASA benefit from the new Regional Complex but that a new Regional Headquarters will also be constructed at its Lowlands facility. Singh was speaking at the opening of the Regional Complex at Lowlands on Friday

The building construction commenced in 2007 at a cost of $10m but due to some problems the contractor was changed when the building was approximately 50% complete in 2009.

Minister of Public Utilities, Emmanuel George chose not to read from his prepared speech as he sought to address some internal managerial issues at the organisation.

He made the point that now the Public Utility company has to make the workers work. Minister George indicated that in the upcoming budget, there will be a number of projects in Tobago that the workers of WASA have to be deeply involved for them to be successful.

Some of these programs are the de-silting of the Hillsborough Dam $60m; Scarborough Waste Water treatment project - $10m; upgrading transmission network, aged and leaking water mains Hope to Bacolet - $8m; Charlotteville Intake - $2m; and the South West Tobago Sewerage Upgrade Phase 1 - $10m.

Tobago-West representative Dr. Delmon Baker said that citizens should be closer to the point where they can get a reliable supply of water 24 hours, 7 days a week.
