Tobago Young Kings Battle at Roxborough Complex, Saturday

Tobago All Stars Calypso Tent singer Dave Sampson looms as a big threat in the 2012 Tobago Young Kings competition. The heated calypso contest is set to come off this Saturday night 8pm at the Roxborough Sports Complex. Alex Gift (Tobago Chalkie) is the defending monarch and is expected to face some stiff competition from a number of other singers.

The Tobago Young Kings competition has been produced by the Tobago Cultural Committee for over 20 years and has given a solid platform for Tobago calypsonians.

Since Walter Coppin copped the first title in 1990, the Tobago Young King competition has developed into a real calypso Royale battle. Michael Baker, Henson Wright, Coppin and Gift have all had strong runs in the competition.

This Saturday night the battle for the 2012 Tobago Young King title could turn the Cyd Gray Complex into a modern-day gladiator ring with no holes bored.

Dillon Thomas, Garth Washington, Kenneth Thomas, Jerry Combie, and Ware will all believe they are in with a chance to end the four-year reign of Gift who continues to use the Chalkdust mantra who will not want to part with his title which makes the plot for a fight to the finish when the bards hit the Roxborough Complex stage on Saturday night.
