Tobago Queen of Fire is National Calypso Queen

Lornette Reid (Fire Empress) scored a major victory when she captured the 2012 National Calypso Queen title last Monday night at NAPA in Port of Spain. Fire Empress had already secured the Tobago Calypso Queen when she took the title at the Cyd Gray Complex, Roxborough last week, Saturday night.

Lornette who combines her entertainment act with husband David went into the competition with her big Prince Unique composed song entitled 'Woman'. In securing the national title, the Tobago based song empress defeated big name calypsonians Terry Lyons (Superblue's daughter) and Singing Sonia a former national monarch finalist. Young Jermeeka Mundy came in second with 'Free Yuhself' while Terry Lyons was placed third with 'Cyar Stop Moving' and Singing Sonia copped the fourth place with 'Still Around'.

The experienced Leslie Ann Ellis who was the other Tobago representative in the final came in fifth with Sherwin Cunningham's composition 'Mothers and Others'.

The National Action Cultural Committee headed by intellectual giant Aieyogoro Ome has been organising the National Calypso Queen competitions for over 25 years. The National Young Kings which the committee also organizes will have two Tobago finalists. The event is carded for Monday 6th February also at NAPA.

Meanwhile, Fire Empress is also expected to make a guest appearance at the finals of the Tobago Young Kings which takes place this Saturday night 8pm at the Roxborough Sports Complex.
