Three killed around Hairpin bend in CharlottevilleThe excitement of the Charlotteville Fisherman fete turned sorrowful when three people lost their lives in a vehicular accident in the village on Sunday. Dead are Charmaine Fontaine, 48, of Bon Accord, her daughter Rhesa Fontaine, 17, and Alexander Alleyne of Golden Lane. Charmaine's 18-month-old baby, Jadine Jordan was also admitted to the Scarborough Regional Hospital and later transferred to the Mt. Hope hospital in Trinidad in a critical condition. The fifth occupant of the car, Dale Davis escaped serious injury. Charmaine was celebrating her birthday on that day, while her daughter Rhesa only graduated from secondary school a week before. According to reports reaching this newspaper, the vehicle was heading east and descending Bark Hill when the driver lost control, plunging the vehicle 60 feet to the Windward Main Road below. The three died on the spot, and the injured rushed to hospital. According to the dead woman's daughter, Kadecia Fontaine, her mother had just dropped her off in Delaford and left to deliver some crabs for the popular Fisherman Fete in Charlotteville. Little did she know that it was the last time she would be seeing her mother. She explained that the man killed in the accident was not in the vehicle when she was dropped off and would have had to be picked up along the way. She said that after she realised that her mother was taking a long time to return, she called the cell phone. However, a policeman answered and told her that her mother was involved in a serious accident. The lucky occupant, Dale Davis said he was picked up in Delaford en route to Charlotteville. He explained that as they made their way down the hill, the vehicle lost control and began to flip. Alleyne apparently panicked and jumped out of the vehicle. He added that when the vehicle came to a halt, he and Charmaine stepped out of the vehicle and confirmed that they were both well. Seconds later, he explained, the woman collapsed and died. The accident occurred just around 8 a.m. The bodies were ordered removed to the Scarborough Regional Hospital mortuary by Dr. Mentor Melville. Charlotteville Police are investigating. |

Our prayers are with the family. Not the time to put God on trial. However, the presence of trial and tradegy is part of human life. We have choice and are not controlled like robots by God. That day is coming when Christ will wipe the tears from our eyes. But for those of you who do not have a saving relationship with the Lord, this is a reminder that you are not ready to face God and need to be saved. May God Bless this family in their time of loss and testing. Stand firm in the Lord and may He be glorified eiby your faith when in the storms and not only in the sunshine.

The journalist wrote "the vehicle lost control" but actually no, it was the driver who lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle has no ability to control. The driver does. This is a very very sad event.
