No access to new home

Alison Paul of Signal Hill, Tobago is upset with the Division of Settlements and Labour over the delay of her acquiring her new home at the Roxborough Housing Development.

"I have been waiting 4-5 years now. I was qualified for a house at the Roxborough Housing Development through the Settlements Department and I tried my best to negotiate with them," Alison Paul said.

Paul said renting is costly and while thousands of dollars continue to be wasted, she continues to move from place to place to secure residence.

"So I am presently at this stage trying my best to get this house, because I already paid up some of my fees and everything like that. I am really desperate for this house knowing presently I have to pay rent."

Documentation from the Division of Settlements and Labour confirming preliminary approval for the allocation of a single family two (2) bedroom house was shown to Tobago News.

Paul says from 2009 to now she feels as if she is moving around in circles as her home is within reach, but she has no keys to walk in and finalize the process.

"I went and see the house, it has lights and water, and I don't feel happy that they have the house here and here I have to be up and down."

When contacted Director of Settlements and Labour Tracey Ann Anthony said while Paul was assigned a housing unit, she has not met the financial criteria to facilitate a mortgage and additionally has not been able to show any real estate interest.

Paul said she has contacted and visited the Division of Settlements asking for a way forward on the matter but to date has not received a response.

Something is definitely not right here. I am asking if she did not qualify for d mortgage according 2 Mrs Anthony, then why has she paid fees? From my knowledge you don't pay any fees until after you are deemed eligible for the Mortgage.....Mr Adams Please investigate.
