Hundreds of motor vehicle owners are now relieved that they can have access to a third Motor Vehicle Testing Station on the island.
Since the year 2000 when privately-owned Garages were contracted as Testing Stations to ease the burden on the Licensing Office, there were initially four Stations in Tobago, but within recent years this was reduced to two units.
There is Roberts Garage in the East at Goldsborough and Sylvester's Auto World at Sherwood Park, Carnbee. However, just a few months ago Jones Motors Ltd.
Testing Station at Highmoor was added to the list as the third Vehicle Testing Station on the island.
The standard checks which are valid for a two-year period include checks on brakes, lights, suspension/steering, tyres /wheels, under carriage, chassis and engine number, etc.
Earlier this year, there were long lines of anxious motorists waiting to be tested in order to avoid the statutory fine of $5,000 for non- compliance. It is hoped that with the additional facilities on the island that all owners of motor vehicles would avail themselves of the services and keep within the law.

@anonymous: Well as long as it is in the name of safety let it be so!! Haven't you seen the condition some of the island's cars are in? We would like to think that motorists take precautions when coming to their vehicles they use to travel back and fourth! Unfortunately, they don't, hence the reason something needs to be done!!

Yes - but who gave prmission to charge motorist $5,000 for not inspecting their vehicle? As the transport commissioner said that that was illegal, when a similar thing was tried in Trinidad.

Are these "motor vehicle" testing stations only for cars? The article implies trucks and vans also, but I don't think that is the case,
