London: It's an enhancement not demolitionTHA Chief Secretary Orville London has said the demolition of illegal structures in Scarborough three weeks ago was about the "enhancement of Scarborough". In an interview London said: "I want to use the term Scarborough enhancement because of what happened a few weeks ago people are looking upon it as the demolition of illegal structures. This is not about the demolition of illegal structures, this is about Scarborough enhancement and there are many aspects to that." He said it should not be seen in isolation, but a part of a process geared towards enhancing Scarborough and making it a place of which all can be proud. He said the Assembly will continue with a series of activities recalling that a year ago a meeting of property owners was held to discuss improvement and partnering between the Assembly and the business people to enhance Scarborough. Another meeting will be held shortly. London said because of the emotive aspect of the demolition "we tend to lose sight of other things that are happening in and around Scarborough". He added that people were forgetting or not sufficiently aware of the move to remove the car park on Carrington Street to a new site which he was assured by the Division of Public Utilities and Infrastructure would be done before the end of next month. He said the drain along the wall of the Scarborough Port will be covered and a sidewalk built while a number of Tobago artists will be commissioned to paint murals along that Gardenside wall. He said the connector road between the Claude Noel Highway and Garden Street will be opened early in August to facilitate traffic from the east entering Scarborough. London said there were also plans for the enhancement of the fish port where a slipway was being put in, the surroundings being beautified with greenery and the facilities for the fishermen being improved. |

It's about time that Scarboro is cleaned up! What an eyesore for everyone! Certainly not conducive for tourists to linger & spend $$ (towards T'go economy)! Wake up!

The THA are paying for not ensuring that Tobago under their administration was left to become an unplanned ghetto with illegal structures and behaviors abounding. It is not too late for them to learn and act though.

One wonders why the THA waited till they are weakened to appear to be doing something. Politicians are extremely pathetic.

The white clean wall looks lovely. Please do not allow the artists to mess it up again.

WHY DID THE TOWN OF SCARBOROUGH HAVE TO COME TO A SHANTY TOWN@ THEN THE THA HAD TO GET PRESSURE FROM THE CITIZENS TO ENHANCE IT. WE NEED TO BE PATRIOTIC AND STOP THE URP AND CEEPEP MENTALITY. HONEST WORK FOR HONEST RENEUMERATION. ALSO IN THAT BEAUTIFICATION, PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS A TROPICAL PARADISE. LETS NOT JUST SEE A CONCRETE JUNGLE, WE NEED TO SEE SOME LUSH GREEN, FLOWERS, ECT. WHERE POSSIBLE BRING OUT THE NATURAL BEAUTY THAT'S UNIQUE TO TOBAGO. ALSO INCULCATE RESPECT AND GOOD MANNERS IN THE CITIZENS. TOURISTS ARE COMPLAINING OF SOME RUDENESS BY RESIDENTS.

Its nice to hear about the clear vision which is to be taken place. We are happy that we are no longer in the dark, but we would still like to know what is beign done for the unemployed vendors and their employies. This is and would remain a great concern for many.We should always strive for quality and not quantity, mainly because quality in itself breathes the best quantitet for development. And thank you for giving the vendors back there dignity by demolishing the headlines of illegal vendors. now they can prodly say we have made a sacrifice for the development of the country, but please let them also be able to say, that our country united together for us that we were still able to provide for ourselves and family.

good move to cover that drain, also dont cover the thing solid, use removable two and a half sections so that the drain can be easily cleaned as the sea brings in sand and silt deposit.
