Despite spirited performances by a number of steel bands Black Rock Katzenjammers were crowned THA Panorama Champions last Tuesday night at the Garden Side Car Park.

Katzenjammers the oldest surviving steel band in Tobago had signaled their intention to sweep all before them in 2012 pan competitions when they topped the national Panorama medium band category semifinal round.

Katzenjammers with their Edwin Pouchet arrangement of 'This Is Bacchanal' lighted up the car parks as the well drilled Katzenjammers pannists executed their song with utmost precision. There was no doubt that the Black Rock band was a 'cut above the rest' on the night.

NLCB Buccooneers copped the second spot and emphasised the Band's consistency and quality. Their Destra Garcia song 'Vibes' was well arranged and well played by the Buccoo Point Band. Steel Xplossion had some sort of redemption from their failure to move on in the national competition by taking third place from Tobago big band RBC Redemption Soundsetters with De Fosto's 'San Fernando Has Spoken'.

The fifth placed Carib Dixieland gave one of the most superb performances on the night. Leron 'Smooth' Edwards the reigning national champion arranger produced a compelling arrangement of the Crazy sung 'Play Yuh Self' and was strangely placed 6th.

The town band Our Boys did not have the number of pannists to impact and came in 7th place.

Tobago Panthers from Golden Lane were clear winners in the Small Band category. The Golden Lane Band did the great Lord Kitchener classic 'Pan In A Minor' and their arranger Gerald Balfour did a wonderful job on the tune and the pannists did the rest. A resurging TTEC East Side placed second playing Destra's 'Vibes' while first timers C&B Cordians did their Canaan/ Bon Accord community proud with a third place finish. Central Symphony was fourth and Uptown Fascinators was placed fifth.

The Speyside based Steel Sensation whose tune 'Gold' by the late great maestro and was arranged by the Festivals Committee Chairman Rawle Axeback Titus started with an ultra hot tempo, but unfortunately lost their way and missed a golden opportunity to impact on the Judges.

The Single Pan category Pembroke Metro Stars with Assemblyman Steve Jack arranging were the big winners. Pan Fanatics finished second and Hope Pan Groovers came in third.
