Jack: Increase in gun violence unwelcomed

Minority Leader in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Ashworth Jack has said the recent increase in the number of gun violence in Tobago is an unwelcome development on the island.

The Minority Leader was speaking at his bi-monthly media briefing at his Scarborough Office

He said this violence has come at a time when the tourism sector is already under a crunch and any activity that will negatively impact on the industry has to be addressed. He wants the Police to go after the perpetrators. "I want to encourage people to report these incidences and I want to encourage the police to go after them because we understand the importance of keeping Tobago safe," Jack stated.

Meanwhile, Jack congratulated the Police Officers who reported for duty on Monday despite calls for a day of 'rest and reflection."

This speaks volumes for our patriotism; this speaks volumes for our understanding of what is happening in the global economy," Jack stated.

yes well done police officers reporting for duty but let's not go over the top, at least some have the job unlike others who have no prospects due to the current state of tobago. a 'new' police force needs to be formed; all existing police (from top to bottom!) need to be screened and all applications interviewed by scotland yard or equivalent of a respected USA force. corruption must be eliminated and confidence in the police system restored/established. 'policing' of this little island shouldn't be difficult, if the will of people remains stoic. 'neighbourhood watch' schemes need to be formed with a view to communalism and vigilance. radar/CCTV is an absolute necessity and for an island only about twenty miles long, not particularly expensive. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!
