Groome-Duke welcomes eight Cuban doctors

A contingent of eight multi-skilled Cuban doctors assigned to Tobago, paid a courtesy call on Assemblyman Claudia Groome-Duke and was welcomed with enthusiasm during a cocktail reception hosted by the Assemblyman at her Scarborough office on last week Friday.

The medical team which will be stationed in Tobago for two years comprised of persons skilled in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, Epidemiology and Nephrology which is an especially important specialist skill required on the island. There were also General Practitioners and Nurses trained in Accident and Emergency Care.

Secretary Groome-Duke, informed the team that all available resources will be made to them to ensure that they are able to perform their task and she described the event as an exciting time for the Division of Health and Social Services since the new Scarborough General Hospital is coming on stream very soon and that the doctors could not have come at any better time.

Also present were Dr. Adalberto Machin Leon, coordinator of the group, Ethlyn John Administrator, members of the TRHA board, the Management Team of the DHSS and both DHSS and TRHA Communications Units.

So sad, I see why Tobago has the reputation it now has. God help us all. Why is there such hostility in many of the comments on this site. Jane did you mean "tapping"? What do think is the reason why there are so many foreign healthcare professional working in tnt? Don't we have educated people that are capable of filling these positions? Just curious.

IS there any incentives, other than helping their own people, for Tobago nationals who are trained and experienced medical professionals to practice medicine in Tobago. Is there a website to visit for those interested.
