All four primary school football teams advance

All four Tobago teams were victorious in their First Round matches November 10. This makes the Tobago Educational District the only one of the nation's eight Educational Districts to advance four teams to this stage of the competition.

The Tobago Educational District had the distinct honour of all four representatives in the preliminary round of the National Champion of Champions Schools tournament advance to the quarterfinal state which was played earlier in the week. The victorious teams were Mt Gomery Government and Roxborough Anglican girls and Bon Accord Government and Bethesda Government boys.

Tobago District boys champions, Bon Accord Government defeated South East runner-up, New Grant Government by a 6-0 margin while Tobago District girls champions, Montgomery Government, defeated North East runner-up, Valencia South Government by a 3-1 scoreline. Both matches were played at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

Andel Francis put Bon Accord in charge after just ten minutes with a double in the space of ninety seconds. Shakeem Irvine made in 3-0 on the stroke of halftime and notched his second two minutes after the resumption. Jokiah Reid made it 5-0 in the 48th minute and Francis claimed his hat-trick two minutes later to complete the rout for Bon Accord.

In the earlier match Tamara Roberts gave Montgomery Government a good start with a goal after just the six minutes of the play. Montgomery took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Goals from Aaliyah Charles in the 30th minute and Laverne Robinson in the 34th minute put the result beyond doubt rendering the 36th minute strike by Valencia South's Sharlana Clarke a mere consolation goal.

Meanwhile at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad, District runner-up, Bethesda Government defeated Caroni champions, Chaguanas RC by a 4-0 margin while District Runner-up, Roxborough Anglican defeated Caroni runner-up, St. David RC 5-1.

Bethesda Government asserted themselves early and were rewarded when Calvin Chapman fired home from close range in the 15th minute. The Plymouth boys pressed for more goals but missed countless chances, thus settling for a 1-0 halftime lead. However, their relentless pressure paid off when Kwame McDougal scored in the 37th minute. Chapman put the game out of reach in the 42nd minute and then completed his hat-trick three minutes later with a beautiful solo effort where he dribbled past six players before scoring Bethesda's fourth of the game.

Roxborough also had a good start with their main striker, Tsaianne Leander, scoring after only four minutes. A defensive mix-up saw St. David's RC pull back the equaliser three minutes later. However Roxborough withstood some pressure and were rewarded when Leander gave them the lead again just before halftime. Sheneil Thomas scored early in the second half before Leander fired home two more goals to complete her beaver-trick and give the Bay school girls a well deserved victory.

In the games played earlier in the week, Bethesda Government, Roxborough Anglican, Mont-gomery Government and Bon Accord Government engaged Arima Boys RC, Manzanilla Government, La Horquetta North Government and Valencia South Government.
